CDG Project Recognized by The Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance

The Batch YardColumbia Design Group was instrumental in the development of a $90 million project that has been recognized by The Massachusetts Smart Growth Alliance (MSGA).

As development consultants and the civil engineers on the project team for the Batch Yard, a seven-story apartment complex in Everett, MA, Columbia Design Group provided all civil design services for the redevelopment of the former Charleston Chew candy factory. Services included due diligence, permitting, utility and drainage design, parking layout and coordination of soil remediation efforts.

Working closely with developer Post Road Residential, CDG helped turn an abandoned and blighted property into a 328-unit luxury multi-family residence.

CDG lends its expertise in stormwater management to the City of Cambridge

The Go Green Awards are given annually by the City of Cambridge, MA, to local businesses and organizations that demonstrate outstanding practices in transportation, waste reduction and recycling, energy, stormwater management, climate protection, and community sustainability.

Columbia Design Group is honored to have provided civil support to CASCAP, Inc. during the design of The Print Shop Condominiums. CDG and CASAP worked closely with the City of Cambridge to construct a large underground stormwater retention system and to upgrade the adjacent street infrastructure.

Additional benefits from the stormwater management system and Davis Street improvements include:

  • Reduced peak stormwater discharge rates and volumes.
  • Increased groundwater infiltration and recharge.
  • Reduced costs for wastewater treatment by removing stormwater from the wastewater system.
  • During the July 2010 intense downpours, the Davis Street stormwater improvements, catch basins, grading and extended drain lines helped to direct runoff into the new drains and adequately handled the intense downpours, preventing damage to the surrounding property and cars.
